It doesn’t matter
what I post on social media.
Someone will comment
with a complaint
or something negative.
I will post a photo of kittens
on Facebook.
Someone will ask me
why I don’t like puppies.
These comments
would ruin the happy vibe
I was trying to nurture
within myself.
Why would people
dump their negativity on me?
It took time
but I realized the answer.
They felt
I could do something about it.
So I did something about it.
Every time someone posted
a negative comment,
I would reply back
with a virtual hug
and I would tell them
that I hoped their day got happier.
EVERY time I did this,
the negative commenter
would then tell me
their day had been crap
up to that point.
I suspect
they couldn’t find another way
to tell me that
so they posted a negative comment.
There are a gazillion people
on the internet.
If someone is complaining to YOU,
it likely means
they believe you can fix it.
And sometimes fixing it
merely means listening to them.
Consider
combating negativity
with listening.
