Someone is always
doing better than you.
There is currently
someone in this big ol’ world
who has
more customers,
more buzz,
more sales,
more products releasing,
more of anything
than you.
When we hear about
these people,
we might feel envy.
Envy is a powerful emotion.
It tells us what we want.
We don’t feel envious
of someone
who has what we don’t want.
But it can also
eat into our happiness
and that’s not a good thing.
“…soon thereafter,
they will become less happy.
Not because they’re worse off,
but because
the dominant media narratives
that arrive
exist to make them feel
insufficient, inadequate
or simply jealous
at how green the grass
is over there.”
What I do
when I start to feel unhappy
about other people’s successes
is I read
about other people’s failures.
I listen,
I learn,
and I feel grateful
I’m not currently
experiencing that level of failure.
Balance stories of
other people’s successes
with stories of
other people’s failures.
Regain your gratitude
and your happiness.
