Halloween And Being ‘American’

I conducted a survey
yesterday.

There are a number of Americans,
following one of
my writer pen names
on social media,
who strongly believe
that newcomers to the USA
should drop
their former languages
and traditions
to speak only English
and celebrate only American Traditions.

So I asked my readers
“Did you give out candy
for Halloween?”

Halloween is
a very American holiday.
Surely folks who insist
everyone be ‘American’
would celebrate it.

Ironically,
about 88% of the people
who insist
newcomers speak English
and embrace American customs
did NOT give out candy.

They had a great number
of excuses.
Some of these excuses
had to do with
there being newcomers
in their neighborhoods.

People say
a lot of sh*t.
It is their actions
that truly count.

I remember that
when I’m developing
marketing campaigns.

I craft them
around what prospects do,
not what they say.
