Non-Romance Novel readers and writers
believe Romance Novels
have a ‘formula.’
They think they are
fill in the blanks
types of stories.
That’s hilariously wrong.
With Romance Novel Design,
there are plenty of guidelines
but there’s only one real constraint
– the story has to end with
a romantic happy ever after
or
a romantic for now.
That’s it.
If the writer is following
a ‘formula’,
she is likely not producing
products
that will entertain her readers (customers).
Entertaining readers
is the primary goal.
If the story isn’t doing that,
there’s a product design error.
“These are the two axes
of professional design
and engineering.
Did you produce
within the constraints?
Did you deliver
measurable results?
That’s it.
Good design doesn’t exceed
the available resources
and
produces measurable change
against the agreed upon objectives.
Great design is better than good design
because it uses fewer resources
and/or creates even better results.”
Are your products
adhering to restraints
and are they producing results?
