As female business builders,
we have to deal with the haters.
Some people won’t support us
no matter what we do or say.
We have woman parts.
That automatically and permanently
bars us
from gaining their support.
And it earns us
their hate-filled comments
and snide remarks.
We can learn quite a bit
about handling these haters
from Greta Thunberg,
the 16 year old girl
leading a world-wide
climate change movement.
She doesn’t waste her time
meeting with leaders
who won’t ever support her cause.
If she meets with people
and feels they aren’t receptive
to her message,
she cuts the discussion short.
As
Jennifer O’Connell
explains,
“She is part of a generation
who won’t be cowed.
She isn’t about
to be shamed into submission
by trolls.
That’s not actually
a look of apocalyptic dread
in her eyes.
It’s a look that says
“you’re not relevant”.”
She sees personal attacks
as a sign of progress.
“When haters go after
your looks and differences,
it means they have nowhere left to go.
And then you know you’re winning!
I have Aspergers and
that means I’m sometimes a bit different
from the norm.
And—given the right circumstances—
being different is a superpower.”
Most powerful of all,
she remains focused.
She has a clear mission
and she doesn’t allow
the haters to distract her.
If a 16 year old girl
can do that,
we can do that too.
Ignore the haters.
Change the world.
