If You Do Well…

A cover (packaging) can make or break
a Romance Novel (product) release.
A great cover can sell
twice as many (or more) units
than an okay cover.

My awesome cover artist
charges a flat fee.
This fee applies
if you sell 10 books
or if you sell 10,000 books.
It is low
for the industry.

As my sales increase,
I’ve been voluntarily increasing
the amount I pay my cover artist.
She still bills the same amount.
I ‘tip’ her.
Currently, I ‘tip’ her
double her invoice amount.

Yes, this gives her
an incentive
to spend more time
on my covers,
to move them from good to great.

But it is also fair.
Her work increases my profitability.
It makes sense
that she would profit
from it.

I don’t ‘tip’
my talented book formatter,
however.
Why?
Because he puts his affiliate links
inside my books.
The more books I sell,
the more he earns
from affiliate income.

I also don’t ‘tip’
my schwag suppliers.
Why?
Because when I do well,
I order more schwag.
They benefit
from my success.

If your success depends on
another person or entity,
that person or entity
should do well
when you do well.
