Recently, I wanted to read
some interviews with
a certain successful business builder.
I prefer to hear
business builders’ exact words
to ensure I capture
THEIR insights,
not the interpretations
of the interviewers.
I’ve watched interviews
with this specific business builder.
I knew she was articulate,
well able to sell her points.
Yet many of the articles
claiming to be interviews
didn’t have ANY direct quotes.
All of the insights
were interpreted by
the (often male) interviewer.
It took three pages
of a Google search
to find an in-text-format interview
that relayed exactly what
the business builder
had said.
And it made me wonder why.
Why would the interviewer
interpret someone’s words,
instead of simply relaying them?
If you want to hear
what someone actually said,
what someone actually means,
go to the source.
