You CAN Be Successful

I grew up dirt poor.
I was surrounded
by other people
who were also dirt poor.

I would tell them
I planned to be a millionaire
some day.

Many of them
would tell me
people like us
could never be wealthy.
They told me
I would fail.

And I DID fail
quite a few times.

If I had believed their bullsh*t,
I would have viewed
those failures as proof
they were right.
I would have quit.

But I had mentors,
mentors who told me
to expect failures
along the road to success,
to consider those failures
as classes,
as learning experiences.

And I succeeded.
I met my goal
with room to spare.
