Yesterday,
I talked about how
I worked around an Amazon glitch
by loading the mobi file
instead of the word file.
A reader asked me
why I didn’t merely load
the mobi files in the first place.
It is because
these mobi files change
as Amazon’s eBook readers change.
Amazon assumes
vendors are loading
the most up to date mobi version.
It is our responsibility
to do this.
Amazon doesn’t assume
vendors are loading
the most up to date word version.
It is Amazon’s responsibility
to ensure their conversion process
works with the older word files
to create the most up to date mobi files.
If I load the mobi files,
I will have to update them
with every update in eBook readers.
Amazon decides
when new eBook readers are launched.
I have no control over that,
which means I have no control over
when I have to update files.
If I update the word files,
Amazon can automatically
update the mobi files
when new eBook readers are launched.
They are responsible for both updates.
When deciding upon a process,
determine who is responsible for updates.
