Customers Set Customer Expectations

A writing group
I belong to
has been debating
what a certain genre of fiction is
for the past two weeks.
They’re talking about
who first named the genre
and how official writing groups
defined it, etc.

That’s all bullsh*t.
A genre is merely
a group of books
with some common reader expectations.

READERS (customers)
set those expectations
and those expectations
can change over time.

It is up to writers
(business builders)
to determine if their books (products)
should be promoted
to lovers of those genres (niches)
but writers don’t get to
define those genres (niches).
Readers (customers) do.

Customers set customer expectations.
Ensure your product/service
is satisfying what
your prospective CUSTOMER wants.

It doesn’t matter
what the industry
or your competition wants.

They won’t determine your success.
Customers will do that.
