I have an expectation
for my book releases
(product releases)
– for every 9 good reviews,
I’ll receive 1 terrible review.
I’m fine with that,
more than fine.
I’m HAPPY with that.
I’m producing a niche product.
If everyone liked it,
I’d worry I wasn’t reaching
a bit outside that niche
with my marketing.
And I should be doing that
– a bit.
That’s how niches grow.
I don’t want my product
to make everyone happy.
I want my product
to THRILL my target market.
“If we need
everyone to like
our work
in order to feel grounded,
it means that
we’ll sacrifice the best
of what we could create
in order to dumb it down
for whatever masses
happen to be speaking up.
Which will make it
more average (aka mediocre)
and thus eliminate any magic
we had hoped to create.”
Not everyone will love
our products/services
and that’s the way
it should be.
Expect the haters.
View them as verification
you’ve created something different,
something special.
