The Romance Writing Business
is a high competitor churn industry.
Every year,
about half of the writers
I know
quit.
They do this
for a variety of reasons.
After over a decade of publishing,
I’ve realized there is little
I can do
to prevent this.
Other writers will quit.
That’s the reality of the industry.
What I CAN do
is minimize the impact
it has on me,
on my business,
on my emotions.
Because having competitors quit
is tough on confidence levels.
It makes me think twice
about what I’m doing,
about MY business,
whether or not
I should be continuing.
The first step
is to realize you ARE playing
in a high competitor churn industry.
Expect other businesses to fold,
other business builders to quit.
This has nothing to do with you.
Also realize that
you likely can’t predict
who will survive.
If you’re new,
established businesses will likely
be cautious about
associating or befriending you.
If you’re established,
you will likely want to associate
with other established businesses.
Think twice about picking sides
or angering competitors
when you’re newer
because it might only be you
and this other competitor
at your level
five years from now.
Are you playing
in a high competitor churn industry?
Plan for the impact
of that.
