You’re Not Selling Marketing

I have writer buddies
who spend most of their time
promoting their Facebook Pages,
their Instagram accounts,
their newsletters.

They wonder why
they aren’t selling books.

It is because
they aren’t promoting their books.
They’re promoting their marketing.

Seth Godin
shares

“When your ideas are spreading,
when your work is remarkable,
when your organization has built
a social ratchet that works,
one of the side effects will be
a significant social media presence.
People will talk about you
in ways that they like to talk
… online.

On the other hand,
if you spend all your time
beginning at the end,
grooming your social network,
tweezing your Insta posts,
hyping your tweets
–nothing much is going to happen.”

Unless your product
IS your marketing
(i.e. you’re selling ad space, etc),
your marketing should be selling
your product.
You shouldn’t be selling
your marketing.

Keep your eye
on what you truly
want to achieve.
