One of the most successful ways
of promoting a book
is using Amazon’s Marketing Services.
This is a pay per click set up
with writers/publishers bidding
for placement,
the highest bid winning.
The issue with this is…
most writers aren’t business people.
A writer asked a group of writers
what their highest bids were.
TWO out of the three hundred plus
writers answering
had a calculation to back up their bid price.
(And, as a businesswoman,
I would use
neither of those calculations.)
Many of the high bids mentioned
would result in losses
for those writers.
With the state of the market,
I doubt they’d ever recover
the money spent.
If you want to be successful
in business,
you have to crunch the numbers
(or have the numbers crunched
for you).
