I recently wrote
the worst first draft
of a novel
I’ve written in years.
It was a flaming
piece of sh*t.
I questioned whether or not
I should complete it.
It was THAT bad.
But I DID complete it.
Then I started revising it.
It was bad.
Yes, that was true.
But once I had that story
on the page,
fixing it became
MUCH easier.
I could ‘see’ the story
and I could ‘see’
the problems.
This is why we craft prototypes
(and a first draft is exactly that
– a prototype).
It allows us
and perhaps others
to ‘see’ the problems,
which makes it much easier
to fix them.
The first draft or prototype
of anything
is normally a mess.
Accept that.
Perfection isn’t its purpose.
