Here at client k,
we’re not all sunshine and roses.
I speak the truth
and some of it is ugly.
If you’re a female business builder
of ANY race
or background,
you WILL receive threats,
scary threats.
That’s not a maybe.
That’s a certainty.
“When you speak your truth
as a woman of color,
the venom…
Not just nasty comments and trolls.
I’m talking about
‘Die, bitch.’
‘I know where you live, bitch.’
And, because you don’t know
how nuts people can truly be,
you have to take everything
at face value.”
I receive these threats
at client k.
I receive at least one a week
(more when my sales are good)
for each Romance Novel pen name.
My male blogging buddies
and my male writing buddies
struggle to remember
if they’ve EVER received one.
If you’re a woman,
figure out NOW
how you will respond to threats.
Take them seriously
Keep yourself safe.
But don’t let the threats stop you.
Good morning, K,
Did you see this article from yesterday?
http://www.everywhereist.com/what-happened-when-i-tried-talking-to-twitter-abusers/
A woman tried to find out what her online abusers wanted;
they just wanted to abuse.
“I spent days trying to talk to the people in my mentions who insulted and attacked me. I’d have been better off just remembering that when someone shows you who they are, believe them the first tweet.”
This has been my experience too, Rien.
The haters merely want to hate.
They’re not interested in discussion or change.
And there’s nothing we can do to decrease the hate.
Which is why we shouldn’t allow this to stop us.
The hate will be there whether we build businesses or hide in our basements.
I talk about this because I want other female business builders to know they’re not alone.
This is happening to all of us.
We should talk to our female mentors about it, derive a plan to deal with it.
It is sad that we have to do this but it is the world we’re currently living in.
