Go Deeper

Many of my writing buddies
produce a new book
every month.
(They employ ghostwriters.)

I don’t want to compete
with them on volume.
Yes, it is a viable business model
but not one that appeals to me.

So I go deeper.
My romance novels have
layers of meaning
and details that the average reader
might not appreciate.

This means it takes me longer
to complete a story.
It also means I pour
my heart and soul into them,
stressing about the small stuff.

But it has earned me
a readership that, yes, is smaller
but more willing to pay higher prices
and wait for my stories.

If you can’t compete
with the larger companies
on volume or cheap prices,
consider going deeper.
