Being Kind

When many people think of kindness,
they equate it to
never saying anything offensive,
never saying anything to make another person
uncomfortable.

That’s not kindness.
That’s being a chicken sh*t.

It isn’t kind
to say nothing
when a loved one who can’t hold a tune
says she plans to try out
for a TV singing competition.
The KIND thing to do
is to suggest she first take singing lessons
and hone her craft
so she’s the best singer
she can be
at these tryouts.

“We must not mistake
weakness for kindness.

Kindness isn’t weak.
Kindness is a certain type of strength.

We must be kind enough
to tell someone the truth.

We must be kind enough
and considerate enough
to lay it on the line.

We must be kind enough
to tell it like it is
and not deal in delusion.”

Aspire to kindness.
