If your first response,
after being identified
with a group,
is
“But I’m not a…”,
you are.
Why?
Because that is
your #1 association
with the group
and you’re assuming
that is everyone else’s #1 association
also.
Yet you’re still fine
with being associated
with that group.
I know, for example,
when a writer follows up
“I’m a romance writer.”
with
“I don’t write porn.”,
she DOES believe she writes porn
and she’s fine with that association.
If you are truly NOT fine
with that association,
ask yourself
“Why am I remaining in that group?”
