Honoring Commitments

One of my writing buddies
had a Facebook party.
A dozen other writers,
including myself,
committed to guest hosting
for 30 minutes.

This party was right after
the US election.
People were upset,
not in the mood to party.

Attendance was sparse.
About half of the writers
didn’t show up.
I understand their thinking.
It wasn’t worth
30 minutes of their time
to woo that number of prospective readers.

The issue is…
everyone involved with the party
knew they didn’t honor
their commitments.
The community is close knit.
People talk.

Your word is worth something.
Keep it.
