When asked how he decides
on the song list for a concert tour,
country singer Keith Urban
states that he doesn’t.

He doesn’t have one song list.

Why?
Because by offering different songs
in each show,
he encourages his crazy monkeys
(the name for his die hard fans)
to go to more than one.

Multiple purchases by the same customer.

If you’ve ever seen a Keith Urban show, you’d know he doesn’t need to change his set list to get people to go to multiple shows. When did Keith Urban say this? Or is this just an assumption made by you because Keith Urban said in a past interview that he may change up his set list from time to time?

In an interview with Keith Urban aired two weeks ago,
he said that because his fans like to go to multiple shows,
he offers them different songs to keep it fresh and interesting.
He does not have a set song list,
it varies from date to date.

    He also said
    “People say…
If you couldn’t do it for a living,
    what would you do?

    I’d do it for free.”

Jill, its okay for great artists to also be great businesspeople
because business is primarily about giving
the customer (fan) what they want.

BTW…I HAVE seen a Keith Urban show
    and you’re right,
    it was slammin’.

Jill, have you heard his thoughts
on mixing old songs with new?

He enjoys playing the new songs
(who wouldn’t? They’re fresh and new)
but knows that fans come to hear the older songs.

There really is a science to the song list
and I think that most businesspeople could learn
from how the top artists manage it.

This is nothing new. FYI bands like the Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, etc built their business on this touring model.

Yes, Ted, I was talking with a deadhead last night
and he swears the Grateful Dead had the songlist
    down to an art
(never was fortunate to see them myself).

Any band (product) that inspires fans so much
    that they give up vacations
to follow them from city to city
    deserves serious study.
